Direct discrimination

• Treating someone less favourably than others in the same or similar position and the grounds for that treatment are sex or marital status, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief or race.

• Or less favourable treatment of a disabled person than someone not having that particular disability but whose circumstances, including his/her abilities, are the same as, or not materially different from, those of the disabled person.

For example:
• Not employing someone because of their sex, marital status, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, race or disability.
• Refusing to provide goods or services such as accessing to a library, a gym or a B&B to someone because of their sex, marital status, sexual orientation, religion or belief, race or disability.
